If you can't make it out on Saturday, we are going to be at the store most of the day on Sunday. Probably a good idea to call us first (402-580-4583) to make sure we are there. Hope to see you this weekend!!!

Morning Glories are such faithful flowers. They will soon be gone for this year, but, surely they will be back next year. First Frost is the end for this season.

We went on the road again this week. Got lots of interesting things for the store. Found some really great, very old wooden bowls, glass storage jars, and stoneware crocks and jugs. We have been in many states this past couple of weeks and look forward to seeing all of the items we bought in the store. We gotta hurry to get it all in the store by tomorrow

Thursday, September 23, 2010

We leave tomorrow, (Friday, the 24th) on a trip find things to restock the store after the Fall Sale. We will be closed on Saturday. We think the store looks kinda empty.
Fall is truly, finally, here. It is Harvest time, with pumpkins and corn in the fields and gourds drying in the barn. There is just a hint of cool dry air in our days and sometimes very cool nights.
It was truly great to see all of you at the Fall Sale. On behalf of all the dealers, we thank you for coming and we hope to see you soon!!!!

Monday, September 20, 2010

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! We had so much fun seeing you all yesterday. It was a great day for a sale and while the temperature outside was a little chilly, it was a warming experience.
I want to say again. THANK YOU, also, from all of our dealers who wrapped up to stay warm in the 50 degree weather.

It is beginning to feel like Fall and Fall is a great time of the year. It is a time to think about our homes, which are a more confined space after spending Summer outdoors which is not confined at all. We have lots of new things in the store and hope you can make it out to see us.

Deb Kurtzer, whom a lot you know, is a wonderful photographer. She has a talent for seeing things I can't see. Here she took a photo of one of our small drawer units and it is amazing. I will post more of what she took.

HI!! We've been out finding stuff for the past couple of weeks. We found some great Apothecary cabinets and other great old pieces. We went to the Amanas and lots of other towns in Iowa, large and small.
It is always fascinating to see the horse drawn carriages of the local folks around Kalona and Iowa City.
Stop by this weekend and see what we found. There are some great values large and small. We have a few Easter things too, which is coming up fast.

Our window this month features elements of an old Dry Goods Store which was what our store was at the turn of the 19th century. If you can just imagine what it was like back when there was no refrigeration and folks used cold smoking to preserve meats and had old ice caves and old potato cellars near their homes to keep produce cool and out of the sun.

This is one of the salt glazed water jugs we found on our trip this last week. Notice the shape which is called "ovoid". A true salt glazed piece will have a surface which is "pebbled" like an orange. This is a result of salt being introduced into the kiln while the glaze is being "fired". The salt has a chemical reaction with the chemistry of the clay the item is made of. The ovoid shape of this piece is getting to be very rare and these items are more expensive to acquire. Come in Saturday and see what we got!!!!
Hello everyone. We went shopping again this last week. I tried to get home with enough time to complete this blog done, before yesterday, but had too much to get done.
We had some great luck and found some excellent pottery pieces. Some of the items you see in the photo (which we have had before are ink bottles) as well as some great "salt glazed" water jugs from Estates in New Hampshire and Vermont. Most of these water jugs are embossed with the names of the water companies. We will be open as usual next Saturday the 13th. I will add another post to the top of this one

This is a photo of a store in Ohio we like. They carry the same line of linens we do. We love the look of their store and visit them when we get the chance. They have the very best in quality country primitives.
We are going on a buying trip this weekend, so will not be at the store. We're headed to our favorite part of Missouri to hunt for deals. We will open again on the 27th. See you then!!!!!

If you want a closer look at the photo, click on it!!

Posted by PicasaWe will be open in January on a hit and miss basis. We WILL be open on the 16th. The weather has been uncooperative, to say the least, and we need to reload and restock. If there is anything we can do for you during this time, please let us know (402-476-0870 or and we will meet you at the store for whatever you need. The B&B will, of course, be open during this time and we have openings if you want a snug place to get away to. In the meantime HAPPY NEW YEAR, we hope to see you soon.
