HI!! We've been out finding stuff for the past couple of weeks. We found some great Apothecary cabinets and other great old pieces. We went to the Amanas and lots of other towns in Iowa, large and small.
It is always fascinating to see the horse drawn carriages of the local folks around Kalona and Iowa City.
Stop by this weekend and see what we found. There are some great values large and small. We have a few Easter things too, which is coming up fast.

Our window this month features elements of an old Dry Goods Store which was what our store was at the turn of the 19th century. If you can just imagine what it was like back when there was no refrigeration and folks used cold smoking to preserve meats and had old ice caves and old potato cellars near their homes to keep produce cool and out of the sun.

This is one of the salt glazed water jugs we found on our trip this last week. Notice the shape which is called "ovoid". A true salt glazed piece will have a surface which is "pebbled" like an orange. This is a result of salt being introduced into the kiln while the glaze is being "fired". The salt has a chemical reaction with the chemistry of the clay the item is made of. The ovoid shape of this piece is getting to be very rare and these items are more expensive to acquire. Come in Saturday and see what we got!!!!
Hello everyone. We went shopping again this last week. I tried to get home with enough time to complete this blog done, before yesterday, but had too much to get done.
We had some great luck and found some excellent pottery pieces. Some of the items you see in the photo (which we have had before are ink bottles) as well as some great "salt glazed" water jugs from Estates in New Hampshire and Vermont. Most of these water jugs are embossed with the names of the water companies. We will be open as usual next Saturday the 13th. I will add another post to the top of this one
